Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) are the lead characters in the comedy-crime police drama Castle. Castle is a renowned mystery novelist who accompanies NYPD detective Beckett to crime scenes and often helps solve the case with his intelligence and ability to understand the psyche behind criminals by setting the case as a narrative. He first became involved with police matters when an overzealous fan started murdering people in exactly the same way as shown in his novels, and he was called in to help with the investigation.
As the series progresses, we see Castle and Kate developing feelings for each other. Season 5 ends with their finally getting engaged. Season 6 starts off with wedding preparations in full motion, but there is, of course, still a murder to solve in each episode amidst it all. The infamous Triple Killer story hovers in the background of this season, too, with only Castle believing the serial killer is still alive. Kate finally gets the chance to apprehend her mother’s killer, which has been a constant obsession with her throughout the series. This has also been one of the reasons she avoided getting into a relationship with Castle for so long. At last she can find peace and closure by getting justice for her mother.
However, there seem to be a ridiculous number of hurdles that come between the pair and their union. Viewers can’t help hoping for the wedding they have wanted to see for so long right till the end of the finale. Unfortunately, we are disappointed once again as yet another mishap brings the season to a close.
Castle is an entertaining drama with Richard’s smart and humorous dialogues designed to bring a smile to the viewer’s face. His mother often has useful insights to offer and Castle could easily be lost without her. The supporting roles Detective Kevin Ryan, Detective Javier Esposito, and Dr. Lanie Parish are also good to watch. However, if you are the type to dive into technicalities, you might find numerous holes in the plot and execution of scenes. Like when the doctor can tell where a bullet is lodged in a corpse without even having to take the clothes off to examine the body.
The good chemistry between Castle and Kate are one of the strong points of this series and at the end of the day, the show is more about either one of them saving the other, and proving again and again how invaluable they are to each other. That is also the reason most viewers did not like the ending as we were more interested in watching the pair finally get married, rather than experiencing all those twists in the tale.
Loyal fans of Castle will, of course, wait for the next season to find out what became of Richard, is the Triple Killer dead or alive, and whether they will finally get their long-awaited wedding in season 7.
